Forensic Science in the Classroom

The boys and girls in 5th and 6th Class turned their attention to exploring the world of forensics that is so commonly seen on our favourite TV shows. Following a lengthy discussion surrounding the work and role of a forensic scientist in modern society, the boys and girls took their own fingerprints and examined them for specific characteristics. We discovered that some fingerprints had clearer outlines than others. The children are looking forward to using some of what was learned this week in next week’s lesson to solve a mystery using the clues a forensic scientist would have at hand.

Last Day of Term

The staff and pupils of St. Maelruain’s had a busy last day of term. We had a special assembly to award full certificates for those that had been present every day this term. During this assembly we sang some traditional Christmas Carols and also wished three special pupils a Happy Birthday as they celebrate their birthdays over the Christmas holidays. Following assembly this morning, we had a very exciting visitor to each of the classrooms in the form of Santa Claus.
